All of the sudden, the Steelers have too many defensive linemen and not enough spots to go around. By the way things were looking very early in the offseason, I wouldn’t have thought this would be the case. However, Chris Wormley and Tyson Alualu both elected to sign extensions with the team – meaning that their top-four defensive linemen with Cameron Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Tyson Alualu, and Chris Wormley are all set.

In addition, the Steelers made a surprising move by trading back into the NFL Draft this year to land Wisconsin defensive lineman, Isaiahh Loudermilk. Though the 6’6” defender still has a lot to prove, Pittsburgh isn’t going to allow him to miss out on a roster spot after investing a fourth-round pick in next year’s draft to acquire him.

This puts veteran Isaiah Buggs in a pickle. Five defensive linemen are already secure in front of him, and he will need to fight tooth and nail with Carlos Davis and Henry Mondeaux with what could be one or two available spots on the defensive line.

One of the players from this group will probably wind up on the practice squad. Without any standout traits, it could be the former 6th-round pick, Isaiah Buggs.
