Steelers seek help from veterans
Kenny Vaccaro, the former safety for the Tennessee Titans the past three seasons, was released for cap purposes. The move saved the Titans $3.9 million in space. Considering he also has more time behind him than in front, it didn’t help that the 30-year-old was a part of a defense that ranked fifth-worst in total yards and ninth in points given up in 2020.
Despite only playing 13 games, Vaccaro still finished fourth in combined tackles (83) and second in TFL (6) on the team. However, there was a noticeable drop off with his on-field performances in that he allowed a 73.2 completion percentage when targeted and missed eight tackles – both highs as a Titan. Also, last season marked the first time in his NFL career that Vaccaro wouldn’t force a turnover.
Although, the question begs if this marks the start of a decline for Vacarro or an anomaly for a player that has shown to be effective underneath as a defender and against the run? Still, a solid addition that would bring postseason experience as well to the roster, the price tag shouldn’t be much for an individual that has yet to receive any looks from any team since March.
