4 Steelers with the potential to be the best in the NFL at their position
By Tommy Jaggi
Steelers LB Devin Bush
This might seem a bit premature, but Devin Bush has all of the tools to become the top linebacker in the NFL. This, obviously, isn’t as likely to happen as the two aforementioned players, but it could in due time.
Though he missed a majority of his sophomore season in 2020 with a torn ACL, Bush recently turned just 23 years old in July and the arrow is pointed up. Now fully recovered, the young linebacker could truly have a breakout performance this season. The pieces are in place for him to do so.
The Pittsburgh Steelers might have the most talented front seven in the NFL at the moment with players like T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, Tyson Alualu, Alex Highsmith, and Melvin Ingram. These guys are going to help free up Bush to make a lot of plays in 2021.
Athletically, there really isn’t much Bush can’t do, as his remarkable 4.43 speed can be seen on any given play. Recognizing pass coverage has been Bush’s biggest weakness so far in the NFL, but he has shown steady growth in this area prior to his improvement. Devin Bush still has many players he needs to leapfrog in the rankings, but he’s as talented as Tampa Bay’s Devin White and has the same top-level upside to become the best off-ball linebacker in football.
