QB Joshua Dobbs

I know many fans are quick to cast a judgment on Joshua Dobbs and claim to have seen everything they need to see with him. But have they really? Though he struggled in his only real NFL action against the Raiders a few years back, we are hardly able to make an assessment of a quarterback after 17 throws.

In comparison, Mason Rudolph has been afforded 326 pass attempts in the first two years of his NFL career, while Dwayne Haskins has been given the opportunity to sling the ball 444 times already, according to Pro Football Reference. If anything, this tells us that we have seen enough with these two quarterbacks and not even close to what we need to see with Dobbs.

Of these three young quarterbacks, Josh Dobbs has the most traits to work with. In addition to a pretty big arm, Dobbs is the only quarterback on the roster with any sort of mobility and ability to routinely extend the play. In addition, his legs are an added weapon that defenses must account for, as he is a threat to take off and chew up yards on the ground on any given play.

Unfortunately, despite his impressive record on a bad Tennessee team in the nation’s toughest conference, Dobbs has never really gotten the opportunity he deserved. Though the team might have already seen what they needed to from him, he’s made an appearance at the quarterback position in just 2 games in his first 4 years in the NFL.
