Pat Freiermuth has been the most impressive offensive player at camp

It typically takes tight ends a few years to develop moving from the college game to the NFL. Even some terrific tight end prospects in recent years have ended up being non-factors for their teams early in their NFL careers, and sometimes they don’t become great players until their second contract.

I don’t say this lightly, but I thoroughly believe Pat Freiermuth has been the most impressive offensive player at Steelers training camp so far. He seems to be much further along than I expected.

With Ebron nursing an injury and practicing in a limited fashion, Freiermuth has been running primarily with the first-team offense, and the game doesn’t look too big for him. The former Penn State tight end has made the most of his opportunities so far in camp.

In addition to catching everything thrown in his direction, Freiermuth has done a great job selling his routes with head fakes and body movements and has been very impressive down the seam. He also had a few terrific blocks in space – something he should excel at in the NFL. Now he will look to continue this impressive run into the preseason.
