Steelers Quarterback Dwayne Haskins

Dwayne Haskins has been the Steelers’ second-best quarterback at camp to this point. Many do not expect much from the failed former first-round selection out of Ohio State. He is still young for a player at this level and has lots to learn. He has still made some poor decisions in practices but the good has far outweighed the bad.

He is currently competing for the third-string spot with Josh Dobbs but this player has been playing better than the current backup. Mason Rudolph has struggled a lot in practices so far and that should be a concern to the coaching staff. It seems like Haskins will not be able to win that backup spot but he could push for that discussion if he keeps up this effort.

There could be some quarterback controversy happening in Pittsburgh, especially if Haskins outplays Rudolph during these games. Steelers Nation will be chanting for the former Ohio State product more than Rudolph and his Cowboy collegiate roots. Haskins seems like he will secure this third-string opportunity with Dobbs being the odd-man-out currently.

That could always change if or when a trade or injury occurs. The black and gold have some alright competition at this position for the first time in a while so it will be interesting to see what Haskins and this group can do in a game scenario. The Steelers will have a lot of opportunities to show this coaching staff what they have before the final cuts come rolling in. That opportunity under the lights starts here in the Hall of Fame Game.
