Steelers fans had a short list of things to truly cheer about in their HOF game versus Dallas.
In the 2021 NFL Hall of Fame Game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Pittsburgh Steelers played at the standard of what most people would refer to as “okay.”
In a matchup that was for the most part uneventful, Pittsburgh tallied up a mediocre 16 points in the second half to ultimately down Dallas by two scores. The trek to achieving said result involved multiple missed kicks (from both sides), turnovers, and very few wowing plays.
Nonetheless, the Steelers did manage to prevail and, subsequently, start 2021 right for themselves. Many things about their execution as a unit were similar to last season, such as their solid defensive play and late boost of momentum to secure wins.
However, the defense receiving praise is typical for Pittsburgh. How did the rest of the squad perform?
Who stood out in Steelers win vs Cowboys?
Sure, special teams had their ups and downs, from rookie punter Pressley Harvin’s insane punt to pin the Cowboys deep, to kicker Sam Sloman being the definition of inconsistency on both field goals and PATs. But what about the offensive side of things?
As previously established, there was only so much to take away from the execution of the victory. Because of this, there will be quite little to absorb from the statistical performance of whoever is singled out. And in this case, that special someone is quarterback Josh Dobbs.
Three QBs got their fair shares of reps in the game: Mason Rudolph, Dwayne Haskins, and Dobbs, respectfully.
Despite Dobbs being last on the rotation and getting the least amount of passes off, he was the only one of the quarterbacks to successfully deliver a touchdown pass in the affair. Such an accomplishment paved the way for him donning the best passer rating amongst both the Cowboys unit and his own (122.9), according to ESPN.
While his overall performance of 4-for-6 passing for under forty yards is quite underwhelming, one must consider that he was expected to be the 4th-string quarterback for the Steelers this season (assuming that he would even be there at all).
The long and short of it is that a man in the shoes of Josh Dobbs, playing in a game like this year’s installment of the HOF game was, has certainly seen worse days. Some folks may see nothing more than a subpar preseason game, but it was also a statement win for Josh Dobbs and his place in the Steelers family.
