Steelers edge defender depth

The Steelers chose to rest Melvin Ingram in this contest, and Alex Highsmith stole the show in the first quarter. The top of the depth is settled with T.J. Watt as the left edge and Highsmith as the right edge, while Ingram is expected to rotate between the two positions.

After these three, however, it gets a bit murky. Cassius Marsh is likely leading the rest of the depth at the moment and the eight-year veteran earned a sack against the Cowboys during the Hall of Fame Game. But he wasn’t the only one.

Rookie Quincy Roche also had an impressive sack in this contest in addition to a tackle for a loss and a quarterback hit. Even Jamir Jones – who has been impressive at times during training camp – had a nice pressure and earned 3 quarterback hits.

Last year, the team only kept three edge defenders. If the Steelers do the same in 2021, it’s going to be a tight race to the finish with Marsh, Roche, and Jones.

In just a matter of weeks, the Steelers will have their depth chart finalized, but there are still some very notable battles at these three positions. Keep a watchful eye on them over the next three preseason games.
