Steelers Hall of Fame Game: The great, the good, and the bad
The Good: Steelers defensive backs
I can’t start off talking about the defensive backs without talking about Miles Killebrew. He is the least talked about guy in this training camp, but I am expecting him to fill out the role Jordan Dangerfield filled out in his time here. I saw him near the play often in this one. While he didn’t make many splash plays there was an open-field tackle in the flat where he rang a bell.
He is #28 for the Steelers now and with his build, athletic profile, and his willingness to have lined up in the slot, safety, and linebacker in the first game I would assume he is on his way to making the roster at this point. If he can impress on special teams he will be a lock. For him to be listed as a linebacker on the website, it is showing his versatility to fill in for multiple positions on the defense.
James Pierre played tight coverage throughout most of the game and had a couple of good deflections, Tre Norwood looked alright but his biggest moment in my mind was dropping an interception on the Steelers’ first defensive position of the game. Antoine Brooks was used near the line of scrimmage and was filling out a lot of what Mike Hilton’s role was in Pittsburgh.
The good comes from having a plethora of young defensive backs that have things to work with. I don’t expect everyone to make the roster, but they can find room for a lot of these guys and I wouldn’t put it past the Steelers to use guys like Brooks and Killebrew in more a hybrid role come the regular season.
