Pittsburgh has had some players that have raised eyebrows recently, but these three have stood above the rest at Steelers training camp.

This time of year, it’s hard to believe everything you hear on social media. With limited contact in many NFL training camp practices, most players look impressive in shorts. However, these past few weeks I feel like I’ve really learned a lot about which players are truly performing well and which ones have been overhyped.

I recently had the privilege of spending the beginning of August at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, and I wanted to share my findings with you. On a 90-man roster, it can be hard for players to consistently stand out above the rest. However, these three managed to do exactly that. Here are the three most impressive players at Pittsburgh Steelers training camp so far:

EDGE Alex Highsmith

Alex Highsmith has been everything I could have hoped for and more. In fact, the second-year edge defender gets my vote for training camp MVP through the halfway point. Highsmith has been remarkable in all of his assignments, and he might be the most consistent player that shows up each practice.

During 11-on-11 team sessions, the Steelers first-team defense rotates often with the backups, but Highsmith still makes his presence felt. Over the past few practices, he was always one of the first players to the quarterback. He would have earned several sacks had the defense been allowed to touch the quarterback. Highsmith even dropped back and made an interception in the endzone in practice on August 3rd.

During one-on-ones, Highsmith has been equally impressive, as he rarely loses a rep. He has humiliated rookie Dan Moore Jr. so far, and nobody else has been able to keep him in check.

Though this could speak more about the offensive line, as Highsmith has not been able to match up against an injured Chukwuma Okorafor yet, there is no denying he has been thoroughly impressive.
