Steelers Freiermuth is on fire

We had to wait an extra week to see Pat Freiermuth in a live game, but all signs point to him suiting up for his first preseason games. Expectations were mixed for him heading into the season as most tight ends struggle to make the pro transition and he is set to be the number two option to Eric Ebron. Camp reports have been full of praise though, as Freiermuth has been making numerous big plays and tough catches.

Assuming he does dress for this game, I would expect him to be a huge part of the offense. The team saw their depth deficiencies at tight end in the Hall of Fame game as both Kevin Rader and Zach Gentry struggled to do much of anything. The quarterback in the game would love a reliable safety valve, and Freiermuth can be just that.

It won’t hurt to have him in the running game either. While reports on his blocking haven’t been regular, he hasn’t blown many blocking assignments yet. He can be an integral part of opening up running lanes for Najee Harris and the Steelers backfield this week. It will be great as a fan to finally see him in action, and based on his hot start to camp, he could put up some notable stats during his first preseason outing.
