The Steelers will be taking on the Eagles tonight. Here are three players who could climb the depth chart with great performances.
Steelers training camp has given us a lot of insight as to which players have been performing well. I witnessed first-hand the dominance of Alex Highsmith up close and noticed a clear difference in cornerbacks James Pierre and Justin Layne.
Last week, we gained additional insight during the Hall of Fame Game (albeit mostly with the second and third-string). However, for many players, there is a lot riding on this game. Some will even have the chance to elevate themselves on the depth chart. Here are three Steelers who could do exactly that with a great performance against the Eagles tonight:
CB Mark Gilbert
Mark Gilbert has quietly been one of the most impressive players at Steelers training camp. Though he doesn’t garner near the same amount of attention as Pittsburgh’s top draft choices this year, the undrafted rookie free agent is starting to turn some heads.
Gilbert continued his impressive run at training camp into the preseason as he shined at the Hall of Fame Game last week. Though he did give up a big catch-and-run late in the contest when the game was already decided, Gilbert displayed tight coverage for most of the game and was able to disrupt a few passes.
The cornerback depth has been mostly a mystery all offseason, but we are finally starting to see things take shape. Just like Pierre has seemed to cement himself above Layne, Gilbert could do the same for the rest of the pack that includes players like Arther Maulet, Shakur Brown, and Stephen Denmark.
