EDGE Cassius Marsh

After losing both Bud Dupree and Ola Adeniyi this past offseason, Pittsburgh was razor-thin at the edge defender position. All of the sudden, that doesn’t seem to be the case. The Steelers signed Melvin Ingram in July to bolster their pass rush. With this move, three edge players were locked into a roster spot: Ingram, T.J. Watt, and Alex Highsmith.

The Steelers also spend a sixth-round draft choice on Miami’s Quincy Roche this past April, and he has done well at times. Former undrafted rookie Jamir Jones has also flashed at times during training camp. However, it’s been the veteran, Cassius Marsh, who has been the clear frontrunner to win the fourth OLB job for the Steelers in 2021.

Outside of the top three players at the position, Marsh has been more consistent than the rest of the group, and he earned a sack in the first half of the Hall of Fame Game against the Dallas Cowboys. During practices, Marsh continues to make plays near or behind the line of scrimmage and has performed quite well against offensive tackles in OL vs. DL drills.

Based on their performances right now, I’d say that Cassius Marsh is going to be the fourth edge defender for Pittsburgh this season. The eight-year veteran has actually been a bright spot at Steelers training camp.
