EDGE Alex Highsmith

If you have been following along, this one is not surprising at all; however, I would be remiss if I didn’t Alex Highsmith here just because I’ve talked about him so much this past month.

The reality of the situation is that Highsmith has been the most impressive player at Steelers training camp, and I’m not sure that it’s even very close. In addition to dominating one-on-one matchups against offensive tackle Dan Moore Jr. (and more recently against Chukwuma Okorafor), Highsmith also routinely makes plays behind the line of scrimmage defending the run.

While Pittsburgh doesn’t exactly have the best offensive tackles, the show Highsmith continues to put on is looking less and less like a fluke. He’s legitimately good. In the Hall of Fame Game against the Cowboys, Highsmith was the most impressive player on either side of the ball for both teams in the first quarter, as he harassed quarterback Garrett Gilbert on nearly every play.

At this point, we can rest assured knowing that Melvin Ingram isn’t taking Highsmith’s starting job unless an injury occurs. If he proves to continue this play into the regular season with T.J. Watt across from him, watch out quarterbacks!

These four names made quite the splash this week. It will be interesting to monitor how much they play against the Eagles on Thursday night. Stay tuned.
