Steelers loser: Josh Dobbs

The quarterback play improved overall this week, but the lone player who seemed to regress was Josh Dobbs. Dobbs arguably had the best performance during the Hall of Fame game, but he followed that up with a bad outing. While his completion percentage was good, his yards were horrible. Add in the ugly pick and you easily have the Steelers’ biggest loser on the day.

In all likelihood, his bad play mixed in with the good play of the team’s biggest winner (spoilers) makes his odds of making the roster almost zero right now. He will likely see very limited, if any, snaps in the third preseason game, and while he will have a chance to play in the fourth, it may be too little, too late. Dobbs needed a good game this week to keep his momentum. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

It isn’t even like Dobbs was electric during the first preseason game either. He played the best of an average bunch but still didn’t light the world on fire. His bad game here sets him back, and he is now likely auditioning for a practice squad spot or a roster spot on another team. The wheels fell off him a little bit, and it will likely cost Dobbs his roster chances for 2021.
