Josh Dobbs, Quarterback

Josh Dobbs has been very impressive for the majority of this pre-season process. It might be his most consistent level of play during his entire career. He has yet to play any meaningful snaps as a starter in the NFL but he has shown his ability during pre-season games time and time again. The Steelers have always struggled to let Dobbs go. He makes it a difficult decision and that is a testament to his competitive level. The biggest issue for this player is the quarterbacks in front of him currently. Ben Roethlisberger will make the roster and start the entire season, barring injury. The backup spot has become more of a competition, which isn’t favorable for Dobbs’s outcome.

Dwayne Haskins has applied pressure to Mason Rudolph for the backup spot behind Roethlisberger. Dobbs needed to catch Haskins to make the roster as the third-stringer but that becomes less likely as each day passes. Pittsburgh hasn’t given Dobbs a ton of chances during practices and the games but he still impresses when that playing time comes his way. He just seems like a potential trade option unless Rudolph is let go in a shocking move. That is unlikely to happen but Dobbs is a consistent pre-season performer so it will be a hard decision for this team to make when that happens.
