Steelers Tight Ends (3)

Eric Ebron, Pat Freiermuth, Zach Gentry

This is the first group that really has some questions marks on who’s making the 3rd spot. While the top two options are set, the third tight end is a wide-open race. I do believe they will need to have a 3rd tight end since the team will likely be using much more two TE sets (12 personal). The team could add a free agent still to round out this group, but until then the team will have to choose the best from the rest.

Eric Ebron and Pat Freiermuth will be a pretty decent 1-2 tandem as long as Freiermuth can keep up with the speed of the NFL.  Freiermuth got his 1st action last night in the Steelers 2nd preseason game vs the Eagles and although he didn’t get to see too much playing time he was able to get his first catch for six yards.

The 3rd spot will likely go to Kevin Rader, Dax Raymond, Zach Gentry, or someone on another team after final cuts. Dax Raymond was actually signed to the roster last year but was injured and eventually released but the Steelers brought him back again. Maybe a sign he will be in the mix for this season as well. Kevin Rader has had a nice preseason so far with some nice catches and the run after the catch ability he’s shown. But Steelers actually spent a draft pick for Zach Gentry so he might be the front runner for the Steelers third tight end spot.
