Steelers Edge Rushers (5)

T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Melvin Ingram, Cassius Marsh, Quincy Roche

The position that used to be a weakness has now become more of a strength after a recent free-agent addition. T.J. Watt has been one of the league’s premier defensive players and Steelers best player regardless of position. While Watt is a superstar and Alex Highsmith had some flashes as a rookie there are some questions with him heading into his second year.

We’ve been hearing that Highsmith has been one of the stars at Steelers camp and his sack in the Hall of Fame game helped his case. He was a lock for the team regardless. He’ll likely start over Melvin Ingram but both Highsmith and Ingram should see plenty of snaps.

Steelers have historically only kept four edge players but I think Quincy Roche has looked good and had a half sack in last night’s preseason game vs the Eagles.  Cassius Marsh gives the team a solid depth option with NFL experience. Steelers might be able to get Roche to the practice squad if they need to open a roster spot at another position. Jamir Jones is another name to consider here. Has played well in the first 2 preseason games. Steelers really might keep five at the edge position this year.
