Steelers CB James Pierre: 64 overall

If we are being completely honest with ourselves, James Pierre hasn’t proven a blasted thing yet in the NFL with just 27 career defensive snaps under his belt. I don’t blame Madden developers too much for this one, but his grade is going to totally miss the mark.

Though Pierre surpassed Justin Layne on the depth chart by the end of last season, Layne was somehow still given a rating of 70 overall – 6 points higher than Pierre. Some other players who share the same 64 overall grade as Pierre include OT Aviante Collins, EDGE Quincy Roche, and RB Trey Edmunds – none of which are guaranteed to make the team this year.

Pierre, on the other hand, is not only a lock to make Pittsburgh’s roster, but he should carve out a sizable role this year. From my training camp and preseason observations so far, Pierre has been the second most impressive player in all of Steelers training camp next to only Alex Highsmith.

These are the minor details I don’t expect Madden developers to know, but it’s worth mentioning. Pierre’s overall rating will probably be improved upon the first roster update of the season.
