The Steelers will play their final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. Here are four burning questions Pittsburgh must answer.

The Steelers are about to enter their final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, but there is still much that needs to be sorted out. At the forefront are questions about Pittsburgh’s depth, which players should be kept, and if there are those who could still assert themselves into the starting lineup before the 2021 regular season kicks off.

With many of our starters set to observe this game from the sidelines, Pittsburgh’s young talent will be fighting tooth and nail to make one final impact on the field before the team is forced to cut their 80-man roster down to 53 players on August 31st. Here are four burning questions the Steelers must answer against the Panthers:

Is Benny Snell Jr. worth a roster spot?

This is something that has been brought up often on social media threads this summer. Najee Harris is clearly the bell-cow in Pittsburgh, while Anthony McFarland will act as the change of pace runner. Meanwhile, newcomer Kalen Ballage is having a good summer, many believe he has done enough to make the team.

If Pittsburgh issues roster spots accordingly, that likely leaves just one running back spot left for Benny Snell or Jaylen Samuels – assuming the team keeps four again this year. Snell hasn’t helped his cause in August. After struggling to muster up just 3.3 yards per carry last season on the NFL’s worst rushing offense, he has now missed each of his first three preseason games due to injury.

Snell isn’t a big enough financial investment or a talented enough player for the Steelers to just ignore this. Now finally healthy and getting the nod as the starter for Pittsburgh against the Panthers in the final preseason game, he will try to prove to his coaches why they spent a fourth-round pick on him in 2019. Will he be worth a roster spot this year?
