Steelers FS Tre Norwood

Here’s a player who didn’t seem to be mentioned often during the Steelers preseason finale, but Tre Norwood quietly had a pretty bad game. While he didn’t have any glaringly noticeable plays that left you scratching your head, it was a compilation of his whole performance that was concerning.

According to PFF, Norwood surrendered 4 completions on 5 targets in his direction for 53 yards and a touchdown in this contest. Considering that he allowed all of this on just 40 total defensive snaps is not what you want to see from your backup-free safety.

Norwood’s summer has been a rollercoaster ride, and it’s hard to have too lofty of expectations for a seventh-round rookie. While he may become more consistent as time goes on, he’s given me a big reason to be nervous if anything were to happen to Minkah Fitzpatrick. The difference between the two would obviously be astronomical.

Norwood’s dicey play may have the Steelers exploring free safety options who are cut from other teams. If they feel like they can find an improvement, they could stash Norwood on the practice squad and try again with him next year.
