Dan Moore Jr. left tackle

For the most part, I liked what I saw from Dan Moore in his first preseason. Primarily playing with the second and third-team offense, Green performed quite well at left tackle – showing foot quickness in pass sets while driving defenders in the run game. In fact, through his first three exhibition contests, Moore graded out as one of the best tackles in the preseason this year.

While I think this could turn out to be a spectacular draft pick by the organization, I’m not yet ready to dub Moore as the next very good tackle in Pittsburgh.

Going against starting NFL pass rushers in games that matter is going to be a whole new learning experience for the rookie. Against Alex Highsmith at training camp this year, Moore really struggled badly, so we can’t just assume that his impressive preseason play is going to carry over against the Bills without a hiccup.

I like Moore’s upside a lot, and perhaps he could prove to be a better option at left tackle than Chukwuma Okorafor. However, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least a little worried about how he will perform at one of the most important positions in football in his first NFL action.

Obviously, I hope all three of these players prove to be excellent fits from the gate, but with how much the Steelers have shuffled the offensive line this summer, I have a feeling things could get rocky.
