Steelers OT Dan Moore Jr.

As well as Dan Moore played towards the end of training camp and in the preseason this year, I don’t think anyone would have been bold enough to predict that he would be a week-one starter for the Steelers as a rookie. This, of course, wouldn’t have been possible without an injury to Zach Banner. Like Tuitt, Banner’s injury was significant enough for Pittsburgh to place him in IR – meaning he will have to sit out at least three weeks before returning.

Banner’s, unfortunate, string of health issues has provided a terrific opportunity for Moore to start at left tackle, as it looks like Chukwuma Okorafor will kick back over to right tackle while Banner is out.

This is a positional race that was tight, to begin with. With some excellent performances, Dan Moore can run away with the starting left tackle job and never look back.

Of course, this won’t come easy, as Moore is an inexperienced rookie being thrust into starting at one of the hardest positions to master and most important positions in all of football. Steelers fans should be hoping that he looks tremendous, as this could save the team from spending elite draft capital on the OT position in the coming years.
