Steelers will see a lockdown corner in Bills’ Tre’Davious White

The Bills have been one of the best pass defenses in the NFL for the past three seasons, and Tre’Davious White is a huge part of that success.

Since being drafted in the first round of the 2017draft, he has been one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. He is especially good at forcing turnovers, with 15 interceptions and four forced fumbles in just four seasons. He routinely shadows the opponent’s top receivers, allowing the rest of the secondary to handle easier responsibilities.

What makes him special, though, is his football IQ and work ethic. This film breakdown he participated in shows just how smart of a player he is:

He has been able to perform at this level as an outside corner despite being just 5-foot-11 and around 190 pounds. In most cases, it would make sense to try and get him matched up with bigger, more physical receivers like JuJu Smith-Schuster or Chase Claypool. But White has been able to handle bigger receivers despite his size disadvantage, making it hard to scheme against him.

Whoever the Bills decide to have White cover will be facing an uphill battle, and how much they can accomplish against him will heavily impact how Pittsburgh attacks this defense.

The Steelers would be smart to try and avoid White as much as they can, targeting guys like Levi Wallace and Taron Johnson instead. But fans should be watching who White is covering, especially if he is shadowing the same receiver every play.

They are likely in for a tough day.
