Steelers must get back to a power-run game

Frankly, as my 23-year-old son and I were watching the game, I was reminiscing about those Pittsburgh teams of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s where the power-run game was on full display.

The ground attack we saw against the Bills was a run game, with a few exceptions, that tried to establish the outside-zone game.

Pittsburgh doesn’t have the type of offensive line that can be successful running outside zone. I do firmly believe if the Steelers use a power-run scheme (pull the backside guard and let the tight end seal the outside defender on the play side), they would have more success running the ball.

I’m pretty sure running back Najee Harris, the team’s first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, would probably appreciate that as well, as he is more of a power back than anything else.

Doing so would probably help him increase his 2.8 yards-per-carry average seen in Week 1.
