Steelers Ben Roethlisberger

It seems, at least so far, that Steelers nation has divided itself into two primary camps. On one side, you have the people that are vehemently defending the veteran quarterback and believe he is still a great option. On the other side, you have those that think he is washed up and not worth playing anymore. Based on his play, it is easy to see why fans are upset with Roethlisberger so far in 2021.

In a word, Roethlisberger has been ineffective. While he has helped put together a few drives, he hasn’t been successfully moving the offense down the field. His deep pass looks better than late last year (likely an effect of his knees healing up over the offseason), but the accuracy isn’t always there. This offense has been relatively stagnant to this point, and one can easily point a finger at Roethlisberger as one of the issues.

Assuming he plays this week, Roethlisberger has to get back on track and look like an effective starting quarterback. No, he doesn’t need a 400-yard game and five scores, but a day where he gets the offense moving and can toss a few scores would be nice. This offense is inhibiting the team, and until they prove that they can move the ball consistently, they will likely be the cause of lost games.
