The Pittsburgh Steelers have received their first loss of the 2021 Season. How much will their losses impact their playoff hopes?

Many fans in Pittsburgh were not able to enjoy football during week 2 of the NFL season. As the Sunday and Monday primetime games aired, fans bleeding gold and black remained unsatisfied. The Pittsburgh Steelers were defeated by the Las Vegas Raiders 26-17. Although a loss this early in the season is often overlooked, the Steelers must find a resolution before their schedule becomes stronger.

Pittsburgh failed to produce a victory during their week 2 match-up. The opposing Las Vegas Raiders were carried on the shoulders of their starting quarterback back Derek Carr. Carr was able to record over 350 passing yards while also contributing two touchdowns via the air.

The Las Vegas quarterback did not complete these passes to himself. The Steelers’ secondary struggled to defend his targets. Henry Riggs III acted as the leading target for Carr as the Raiders passing attack put distance between the Steelers and victory. Riggs III recorded 113 yards on five receptions. Las Vegas’s Darren Walker was held to sixty-five yards.

Matt Canada and the offense struggled to return the attack. For the second consecutive week, the Steelers failed to record 100 yards rushing. Najee Harris was unable to produce the numbers that were needed to take the pressure off Ben Roethlisberger. As a result, the offense looked unsynchronized and left spectators disturbed.

Are Steelers losses weighted?

Pittsburgh does not have any room to make mistakes this year. With the strength of their upcoming schedule, the team must capitalize on every opportunity. The month of October will be filled with challenges for the men wearing gold and black. The Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, and Cleveland Browns are all future opponents who will require the team’s best. If the Steelers fail to perform in their upcoming games, the season could be in jeopardy.

Pittsburgh’s organization has always believed in taking the season “one week at a time.” Each week requires the maximum amount of focus. This week, Pittsburgh will be able to assure their home crowd that they are ready for the long season. The Cincinnati Bengals will be coming to town, looking to take a division win. If the Steelers plan on remaining the dominant team in the AFC North, they must begin by winning this week.
