4 glaring needs Steelers must address in the 2022 NFL Draft

Offensive guard

From watching Trai Turner’s 2020 tape until now, you’ll have a hard time convincing me that this 28-year-old guard will ever return to Pro Bowl form. Like pretty much everyone along the offensive line so far this year, Turner can only be described as below-average, and the Steelers clearly need an upgrade somewhere in the interior to help the run game.

First-round pick Najee Harris has not been able to run up the middle as the offensive line has been caving way too quickly. While Kevin Dotson hasn’t played particularly well to begin the season, his play hasn’t been as bad as his Pro Football Focus grade might suggest, and he’s still the team’s best offensive lineman for my money.

In addition, Kendrick Green probably isn’t going anywhere any time soon as Pittsburgh is unlikely to give up on him so quickly. By next year, Turner could easily be the worst of the group and there’s no doubt in my mind that the Steelers need a massive upgrade here.

Though the offensive line was addressed with two mid-round choices in 2021, I’d almost be shocked if one of Pittsburgh’s first two draft selections doesn’t go to an offensive lineman in the 2022 NFL Draft. If the top tackles are off the board, the Steelers could set their eyes on an interior offensive lineman.
