3 Bengals players the Steelers must game plan around
By Tommy Jaggi
RB Joe Mixon
Joe Mixon has quietly been one of the best players on the Bengals for several years now, and for my money, he’s one of the most underrated running backs in football. While he doesn’t receive the same level of recognition as some of the other top running backs in the league, Mixon is incredibly well-rounded and one of the few true workhorse backs in the NFL.
Though the Bengals offensive line has really struggled in pass protection this year, Mixon has found a way to make the running game successful as he’s averaged nearly 100 yards per game so far and punched in a rushing touchdown in Week 1.
Mixon just turned 25 in June and is in the prime of his career. With Tyson Alualu likely out for the season and Stephon Tuitt still on IR, Pittsburgh will need to make sure the Bengals aren’t able to run all over them this week.
At the end of the day, the Steelers need to find a way to contain Cincinnati’s rushing attack while not giving up huge plays down the field. Running the ball successfully will also be key for Pittsburgh this week, but they will have to alter their game plan against a surprisingly stingy run defense. It will be interesting to see how Mike Tomlin and his crew prepare for this one.
