Steelers Freiermuth becomes a safety net

As stated before, I think the Steelers’ offense comes out heavier and more physical than in previous weeks. One player that should benefit is Pat Freiermuth, as the rookie tight end is the best complete option on the team. He has already taken on the starting role essentially, and I expect him to continue to take those snaps this week.

Late in the Raiders game though, you saw Ben Roethlisberger targeting Freiermuth similarly as to how he used to target Heath Miller: a safety net that won’t have a huge win but can make a tough catch and gain tough yards. That role should expand this game, and a few extra targets could lead to a strong day for Freiermuth.

While it isn’t a huge week for the rookie, he catches six passes (tied for the team lead) and has 87 yards to show for it. As well, he finds the end zone for the first time in his career. His rookie season has been surprisingly great so far, and his role should continue to expand. Expect to see him take another step forward this week against the Bengals.

light. Must Read. 4 burning questions Steelers must answer vs. Bengals

While it is far too early to be calling a game a “must-win”, the Steelers need to get their team going in the right direction this week. Expect a close and physical AFC North competition and one that could be won by either team. Keep these bold predictions in mind as the Steelers set off to face the Bengals in week three.
