4 reasons Steelers will be better than they were in Week 3
Some are calling for Matt Canada’s job already.
To keep this brief the offense hasn’t been fully implemented yet. At one point during the broadcast, the analysts were talking about how the Steelers only have 12 no-huddle plays in this offense right now instead of the usual 40-50. It takes time for a system to be implemented and I’m sure Roethlisberger’s ability to learn a whole new system at this stage in his career hasn’t helped matters.
It also hurts that an entire formation in the offense hasn’t been shown due to an injury to Anthony McFarland which saw him on IR. We saw in training camp a 2 RB set with Harris and McFarland that can’t be replicated with anybody else. There isn’t a running back who has a similar skill set to #26 on the roster. That set looked like it was going to be heavily featured in the offense and it hasn’t been used yet.
Do I think Anthony McFarland is going to be the answer to all of Pittsburgh’s problems? No, but the combination of a heavily used set in this system being implemented and now being unavailable in conjunction with being unable to implement the whole offense in one offseason has made the playcalling situation a nightmare. It is something Canada has the ability to figure out. I believe that we will see the offense improve at some stage of the season it’s just a matter of when.
