Is a Steelers trade for Aaron Rodgers even plausible?

With the Steelers’ lackluster performance so far this season, undoubtedly numerous rumors or suggestions have circulated as to the direction they need to take in 2022.

A lot of that will surface around Ben Roethlisberger, now in his 17th season. Some fans want to see him gone now; others are staunch defenders that he has no culpability to the Steelers’ problems. Others want to see him retire gracefully as the Steelers draft a replacement.

Rumors or hopes for a trade for Rodgers have been around for the last two seasons, and Rodgers deliberately or not reignited the rumors with his comments about the Steelers on the Pat McAfee Show on September 29th, 2021.  No matter what side of the fence you’re on, this rumor persists as if it is the solution to the Steelers’ potential quarterback issues.

It’s understandable with the Steelers’ current struggles; some could see a switch at the helm as a way to get the Steelers back on track; however, is it just wishful thinking by fans and analysts who think the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

If any trade were to occur, it would not be in 2021, and given the offseason turmoil between the Packers and Rodgers, and despite the temporary patch, no one expects Rodgers to return in 2022.

So no one expects Rodgers to return, but that’s a far cry from the Steelers rushing to trade for him, either. Supposing something does come to fruition is a trade with the Steelers in their best interests, and could a deal be worked out, and what would the Steelers give up for the Rodgers.
