Steelers must double Davante Adams

Adams is a top 3 receiver in the NFL, and he isn’t 3. He presents a unique challenge for Pittsburgh due to his ability to win so early in his routes, and he can line up anywhere on the field. That will make it a lot harder to prevent Green Bay from getting him lined up on who the Packers want to exploit.

Ideally, Cameron Sutton would be the corner Pittsburgh should want to handle him. He is the best athlete in the corner room and at least will have a better chance to stay with him.

Realistically, which corner that ends up covering Adams most doesn’t matter. What matters is how Pittsburgh can effectively shift coverage his way. Having a corner focus on disrupting him at the line and in the short area of the field and a safety shadowing him over the top should help limit big plays. The Steelers have to be careful not to let the other receivers get too many one-on-ones of course, but focusing on Adams is still the smartest move.

The Steeler’s best chance to limit the passing game is still their pass rush, regardless of how they choose to handle Adams. It will be important though that they are aggressive with him to try and throw off his timing with Rodgers.

Moving to the defensive side of the ball, one player stands out as a big problem for the Steelers struggling running game.
