The Steelers ‘D’ got a ‘shot in the arm’ by two unlikely sources to help secure victory against the Broncos

So, let me finish my thought I mentioned earlier about the defense giving up or rather allowing the Broncos the score thirteen points in the fourth quarter.  That’s just unacceptable.  Without knowing what plays were called in the fourth quarter, it just seemed to me that we were playing not to lose rather than playing to win.

We knew the Broncos had the throw the ball, particularly in the fourth quarter.  If we weren’t able to get to the opposing QB with any consistency, why keep blitzing?  Change it up.  Play coverage.  In any event, we won, so it’s a moot point.

The Steeles ‘D’ were able to generate two sacks on the day, one coming from a defensive lineman, but not the one you would expect.  Henry Mondeaux, our recently promoted DE, got into the action with one of the two aforementioned sacks. I think that’s great.

Our defense has always had role players who were able to be positive contributors.  Well, Mondeaux is a role player who played a big role today in the winning effort.  The other role player who frankly saved the day for the Steelers was James Pierre.

Pierre had an INT that won us the game.  Leading by eight points, the Broncos were driving.  On fourth and goal from the three-yard line, Pierre sealed the victory and may have saved the sanity of Steelers fans.

Let’s take a look at the last thing we learned.
