5 Steelers with stock through the roof following Week 6 win vs Seahawks
By Tommy Jaggi
Steelers EDGE Alex Highsmith
Outside of probably just T.J. Watt, I don’t know if there was another player on either side of the ball for either team that was as impressive as Alex Highsmith. Prior to Week 6, Highsmith had been relatively quiet as he was dealing with a groin injury. However, he exploded for a monster performance against the Seahawks.
Going up against a four-time Pro Bowl and one-time First-Team All-Pro offensive tackle in Duane Brown, Highsmith constantly got the best of him. The second-year edge defender used his speed and dip to get around the corner and land hits on quarterback Geno Smith.
Eventually, this led to Highsmith racking up 7 combined tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss, and an impressive 4 quarterback hits, according to ESPN. This was one of the most productive games of his NFL career to date.
If Highsmith keeps up like this, he could prove to be a force across from Watt moving forward. He’s equally strong against the run and the pass and could prove to be an excellent complement to one of the league’s best defensive players for years.
