Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth

If there is one player all Steelers fans could agree needs to see the field more this season, it’s rookie tight end, Pat Freiermuth. The former Penn State product was known for his ability to pull the ball down in traffic over the middle of the field. This is something Pittsburgh has desperately been lacking.

Through the first six games of his NFL career, Freiermuth has caught a remarkable 18 of 20 passes thrown in his direction for 158 yards (8.8 per reception) and a touchdown. his 90 percent catch rate and efficiency when thrown to have equated to a 116.2 passer rating when targeted by Ben Roethlisberger — the best on the team. He had his biggest receiving performance of the season against the Seahawks this Week — catching all 7 passes thrown in his direction.

In addition to his sure hands and ability to drag defenders with him after the catch, Freiermuth has been impressive when run blocking. Against Seattle in Week 6, the big tight end had some incredible blocks in space that paved the way on the ground for Najee Harris to do his thing.

With as good as Pat Freiermuth has been this early in his career, there’s no reason to believe that he can’t be one of Pittsburgh’s best players soon, and he could develop into one of the better tight ends in the NFL.
