The Steelers are a flawed team but are winning despite the flaws

I realize that we always seem to discuss coaching when we discuss what transpired during a game, whether the game results in a win or in a loss.  I think it is necessary to point out the good and the bad in all three phases of the game, but instead of talking about special teams, we talk about coaching.

I think Mike Tomlin has done a fantastic job of taking a team that started the 2021 campaign with one win and three straight losses to a team that has won two in a row and is now a ‘five hundred’ football team.  I also think Ben Roethlisberger has done an equally fantastic job of bringing a young and inexperienced offensive group together to the point where we have won two games in a row.

Has ‘Big Ben’ played flawlessly?  No, he has not, but neither has anyone else.  As I said, we are a flawed team, but we are now a winning team, but how long will that last?  I believe it will last as long as Tomlin realizes that many of our flaws have to do with a lack of depth at key positions, a lack of cohesion on offense, and a lack of awareness, at times, on defense.

All of the aforementioned can be corrected and it’s much better to correct those issues during a bye week with a win under our belts, as it were.  The question I have is this: will Tomlin make any changes or will it be ‘status quo’ for the rest of the season?

If it’s the former, I think we can be a championship team; if it’s the latter, I think we will be watching the playoffs from the comfort of our collective living rooms.
