Steelers TE Eric Ebron

There aren’t many players currently on the roster who have failed to live up to their billing quite like Eric Ebron. The Steelers brought in Ebron hoping that he would be the next great tight end in Pittsburgh. He was not.

Despite already having a reputation as the former 10th overall pick and Pro Bowl honors attached to his name, Ebron has been a colossal letdown on the Steelers and clearly hasn’t been worth the two-year $12 million deal he signed in the 2020 offseason.

In addition to being a poor blocker at the tight end position, Ebron hasn’t even lived up to expectations as a receiver — catching just 7 of 13 targets for a mere 6.7 yards per reception this year, via Pro Football Reference. He also has some missed opportunities down the field, including a big third-down drop.

It makes Pittsburgh’s decision easy knowing that Ebron has an expiring voidable-year deal after this season and that he will still be costing them over $3.9 million next season even though he won’t be on the roster, according to Over the Cap. Pat Freiermuth is the future at tight end for the Steelers, and they won’t give Ebron a second thought.
