4 Steelers who will return in 2022

4. Steelers S Terrell Edmunds

Edmunds selection is probably a safe pick, though someone could make an argument he should not return. Of all the Steelers on the team, to a degree, he usually seems to be the most lackluster compared to Cam Heyward or T.J. Watt.

There is no mistaking that Edmunds is a talented safety; he is just no Troy Polamalu.  He is effective just not overly flashy. In four seasons, he only has four picks and one fumble recovery. So he has not been a huge playmaker over those four years, yet, he is consistently a solid defender. In 3 ½ seasons, he has 284 combined tackles and 195 solo tackles, very close to the same amount Troy had in that time frame.

So while he may not go out there and thrill fans from week-to-week, he is a dependable pass defender that does his job. When his contract expires, the Steelers would have to consider getting someone in the draft to replace him. With only five draft choices and other needs, the probable answer is no.

Then, they would probably need to look to free agency. However, with Edmunds, you know what you’re getting; he has a track record.  Plus, not feeling the constraints of the salary cap, they could work out a deal that allows Edmunds to return. Look for him to remain on the team going forward.
