Bold predictions: 4 Steelers who leave and 4 who return in 2022
4 Steelers who will return in 2022
3. Steelers LB Robert Spillane
Robert Spillane’s contract expires this year, but no one can deny he has been a productive member of the Steelers’ defense, if anything else, despite not being a starter. He played for the Tennessee Titans in 2018, then he signed with the Steelers in 2019, only playing eight games in a limited capacity. In 2020, he showed how capable he could be stepping up after injuries to Devin Bush and Bud Dupree and finished the season with one pick, one touchdown, and 39 solo tackles, despite getting injured himself.
This season he is still more of a reserve linebacker; however, no matter how the season ends for him, he has proven he can be a reliable defender when needed and is more than capable when called on as a starter. Quite possibly, other teams could come calling in 2022; however, since the Steelers are not so cash strapped, Spillane would still come with a cheap price tag. The Steelers could sign him say to a three or four-year deal for perhaps worth $3 to $4 million, and that might even include the signing bonus.
There is no doubting the Steelers like Spillane and should have no hesitancy signing him. He is likable, and he is a solid player when called upon to play. The Steelers would get their money’s worth by signing him and they know a good deal when they see it; look for them to secure Spillane for anywhere between 2-4 seasons.
