Melvin Ingram might have a shorter stay with the Steelers then most expected when he signed with the team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a great signing at the ladder stages of the pre-season by bringing in Melvin Ingram. His contract was a one-year deal that saw the veteran provide tremendous depth behind the two starters.

T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith were always going to be the main guys on the edge for this defense, and Ingram seemed okay with that for a time, until recently. His number of snaps have gone down and that takes away his value for potential contracts in his future.

Ingram has now requested a trade from the team before the NFL trade deadline of November 2. That is going to be a big day for this black and gold club. Their game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday might help make the decision to keep or trade Ingram easier, based on its result.

Kansas City Chiefs

Reports broke recently that the Kansas City Chiefs have placed calls with Pittsburgh about Ingram. Their interest is not surprising as the Chiefs defense has struggled in 2021. Their team is trying to retool on the fly in the hopes of gaining back contender status for this season.

The issue is the team from the Steel City does not want to do business with other AFC squads, they would rather trade a player like Ingram to an NFC team. That way, the trade couldn’t bite them if they’re in a playoff hunt down the road.

That is risky, as an average club should be looking for the best available draft pick or trade scenario presented to them. The value won’t be high, but perhaps the Steelers could get a fourth-round selection for Ingram if they are lucky.
