5 Bold predictions for Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland

2. Steelers James Pierre shuts down his receiver

While not a full-time starter yet, James Pierre has flashed the ability to be a good starter in this league. This week, he should have a role on the team as the third cornerback in coverage situations, and his main player to cover will likely be Rashard Higgins. While a talented route runner, Higgins doesn’t have elite athleticism, something that should greatly benefit Pierre.

When on the field this week, Pierre has a chance to cement himself as a legitimate starting candidate for the Steelers. Considering the deep pass is his biggest source of weakness, the team should get a good look at him in a situation he should excel at. I fully expect him to be all over Higgins, and while he may give up a catch or two, I think he has an overall solid day.

While Arthur Maulet will cut into his playing time some, as the team’s best run-defending corner, Pierre should still see ample snaps. He has had his lumps in 2021, but the potential he has displayed is enticing. He still needs to develop some to become a traditional starter, but this week seems like a great matchup that should further add to his resume.
