Steelers EDGE Melvin Ingram: Sell
Melvin Ingram has been a terrific signing for the Steelers this summer and I can really see both sides of this. On one hand, Ingram offers terrific depth that most teams don’t have with their pass rushers, and he is plenty good enough to be a starter if T.J. Watt or Alex Highsmith were to go down for any period of time.
On the other hand, there are teams out there who would be salivating at the chance to trade for a player like Ingram, and the Steelers could be compensated nicely for him.
Despite his age (32), Ingram has a very manageable contract for a team that would be trading for him. Ingram is also better than many starting edge defenders around the league and he has graded out as such, according to Pro Football Focus.
What makes potentially dealing with Ingram so enticing is the draft capital Pittsburgh could receiver for him. While many of the players they may be willing to part with can fetch no more than a late-round pick, Ingram could snag a fourth-rounder in return due to his quality play and the value of the position — maybe even a third-rounder in a pick-swap deal. For a team that will soon be retooling their roster, this is worth exploring.
