NFL Head Coaches are in a unique fraternity of 32 people but that list will get shorter as vacancies open up around the league.

Every year the NFL has rumors swirling to which Head Coaches will be fired sooner or later. These names on this list are in jeopardy of losing their jobs and searching for new positions elsewhere. There are only 32 of these highly sought after positions available in the league.

They are always highly competitive as to who will get the job when the posting goes up. Some other coaches could also be facing the hot seat but just missed the list. There might be more vacancies to fill after the 2021 season then most expect based off these names.

Coaches on the hot seat

Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions

Dan Campbell has not had a great start to his Head Coaching career in Detroit. The Lions are a winless team currently that has no bright spot. They won’t win many games this year and potentially into the future.

This is a rebuilding team and owners want success quickly. Not many of the owners show patience and that might spell disaster for Campbell and his time coaching the Lions. This franchise needs time to develop but this coach might not be along for the ride depending on management’s thinking.

Arthur Smith, Atlanta Falcons

Arthur Smith is another in this grouping of first-year Head Coaches to make this part of the potential fired crew. The Falcons are not having a good season but that franchise is irrelevant right now and that is the worst thing to be in the NFL. They will probably use the coach as a scapegoat but they may keep him.

This team so desperately wants to wind back the clock and somehow emerge as Super Bowl contenders but that was years ago. They don’t have a good team and Atlanta just needs to lean into the rebuilding process. Smith doesn’t seem like a long-term option but it will depend on ownership to decide that.

David Culley, Houston Texans

David Culley was put into a very tough situation with a Houston Texans team in disarray. He doesn’t have a star quarterback, first-round picks to help develop, or any real impact players. This is a rebuild project in Houston but they don’t have any capital to accomplish that.

Culley was fired the day he accepted this job. There will be bigger names that become available and that is when the Texans will look elsewhere. He might get another year before he is fired but it is going to be a long time until Houston is a good football team again.

Now, a look at five coaches who have a greater chance at being fired during the 2021 season.
