Ben Roethlisberger’s performance helped Mike Tomlin’s team conquer their division rivals and as the team prepares for the week ahead, their supporters will relish theirin their hard-fought victory.
Pittsburgh has faced its fair share of difficulties this season. Injuries to key players such as Melvin Ingram, Roethlisberger, and Juju Smith-Schuster have stunted the team’s potential. Their questionable 3-3 start had the team entering week eight as the fourth-best team in the AFC. Their matchup against the Browns was a must-win game if Pittsburgh aspired to play in the playoffs.
The game began slowly for both teams on Sunday. The game’s first touchdown came in the ninth minute of the third quarter when Cleveland’s D’Ernest Johnson rushed for a 10-yard touchdown to put the Browns up 10-3.
Pittsburgh’s offense would respond with a rushing touchdown of their own on the next drive as Najee Harris ran behind the offensive line for an eight-yard score. With kicker Chris Boswell out, the Steelers decided to attempt a two-point conversion but failed in the process.
Steelers defense and tempo were keys to victory
Pittsburgh’s defense was a huge factor throughout the game. T.J. Watt and the Steel Curtain held the Cleveland offense to 96 yards rushing and the Defensive pressure caused Jamie Gillan to punt four times.
Ben Roethlisberger’s performance helped Pittsburgh steal a victory on the road. Roethlisberger’s 266 yards passing helped the Steelers create a diverse offensive attack, leading to Ben’s two-yard touchdown to Pat Freiermuth, helping Pittsburgh seal the victory.
Harris contributed to Pittsburgh’s win as well as the Steelers decided to feed their rookie running back 26 carries for 91 yards, with hopes of obtaining a victory. His 3.5 yards per carry kept Cleveland’s linebackers on their toes throughout the game.
Pittsburgh is in an ideal situation heading into November as the victory against the Browns has thrust them into third place in the AFC North.
Tomlin and the Steelers will prepare to play on Monday Night Football next week as the Chicago Bears travel to Heinz field in search of a victory. If the Steelers can build off of their three-game win streak, the result of next week’s game will be favorable.
