Steelers must pursue Russell Wilson

Outside of a few quality receivers, Russell Wilson has had one of the worst supporting casts in the NFL over the past few years, and the Seattle Seahawks have arguably been the worst drafting team in the league now for the better part of a decade. Wilson clearly isn’t happy in Seattle, and the team seems likely to let him explore a trade next offseason.

Fetching the 7-time Pro Bowl quarterback and former Super Bowl winner won’t come cheap, but it’s an investment that could prove to pay major dividends for Pittsburgh in the immediate future. Wilson has thrown between 31-40 touchdowns in each of the past four seasons and has averaged more than 8.0 yards per attempt during this time.

Prior to his finger injury this season, Wilson had 10 touchdowns and just 1 interception while leading the league with an astonishing 9.6 yards per attempt — 3.2 yards more per throw than Roethlisberger this season. In addition, Wilson was a strong MVP candidate with his 125.3 passer rating.

Still just 32 years old, Wilson could give the Steelers potentially 6-8 more good years of play and will open their Super Bowl window once again. The price won’t be cheap, as this could cost the team a pair of first-round picks, but it’s the price you pay to become contenders again.
