Steelers TE Eric Ebron

Steelers fans had very high hopes for Eric Ebron when he joined the team as a free agent following the 2019 season. With the Indianapolis Colts, Ebron earned Pro Bowl honors in 2018 for his 750-yard, 13-touchdown performance with Andrew Luck under center. Sadly, it’s been all downhill from there for the veteran tight end.

Though Ebron had a respectable year on the Steelers in 2020, he didn’t offer nearly as much as fans were hoping for, and drops continued to be an issue. So far this season, Ebron has been even worse — catching just 7 of 13 passes for 47 yards (6.7 yards per catch).

Ebron had a huge third-down drop early in the season and he can’t seem to reel in the ball in congested situations. In addition, his blocking has been even worse than his receiving, and he’s clearly the worst blocking tight end on the roster.

With the rapid emergence of rookie Pat Freiermuth and the sound blocking and in-line play from Zach Gentry, Ebron has become an afterthought on this team. The former 10th overall pick by the Lions will still get his snaps, but it would appear he has almost nothing left to offer this team moving forward.
