Steelers trade 6th-round pick for Josh Scobee

From the end of Jeff Reed’s career to the beginning of Chris Boswell’s the Steelers had a difficult time finding a kicker that could stick around and there was very little consistency at the position. Out of desperation, Pittsburgh offered their sixth-round draft choice in 2016 for Jacksonville Jaguars kicker, Josh Scobee.

For the most part, Scobee had a really impressive NFL career. He kicked with 89-92 percent accuracy on field goal attempts from 2011-2013, according to Pro Football Reference. However, his efficiency dipped a bit in 2014 prior to coming to Pittsburgh (79.6 field goal percentage, 100 percent on extra points).

However, I don’t think anyone expected Scobee to be such a colossal failure when he joined the Steelers. After being one of the better NFL kickers for nearly a decade, the 33-year-old completely botched it in Pittsburgh — converting just 60 percent of his kicks.

Eventually, Scobee was let go after just 8 games, and Pittsburgh was back to square one. Though it was just a day-three draft choice that was lost, Scobee was detrimental to the Steelers during his brief tenure with the team.
