5 Steelers questionable ahead of Monday night game with the Bears
Last weekend, the Steelers came close to disaster in their AFC North matchup with the Cleveland Browns as they had no placekicker for half the game.
Thankfully, as many do, the game did not come down to the Steelers needing three points from their placekicker. Thus they narrowly edged the Browns 15-10. More importantly, outside of Boswell’s injury, there were no other new injuries as the Steelers stay relatively healthy for another week, allowing them to remain competitive and climb up the ranks in the AFC North as the Bengals fell to the Jets unexpectedly last week. So here are the latest injuries listed on their injury report.
Eric Ebron TE: questionable (ankle)
Ebron injured himself late last week, heading into the weekend. As a result, he ended up missing the Cleveland game. He is still listed as questionable and did not practice Thursday. Right now, there is no clear consensus as to whether he will miss the Bears game, but it is a clear possibility. If he misses the Monday matchup, expect Freiermuth to play a more important role in the Steelers’ offense.
Ben Roethlisberger, QB: questionable (pectoral/Hip)
Ben Roethlisberger is still dealing with his two injuries and still gets listed on the injury report. Despite that, neither has impacted his ability to play on Sunday. He has practiced all week, and despite the listing, it appears there is nothing that will prevent him from playing against the Bears.
Chris Boswell PK: questionable (concussion)
There is a bit of uncertainty as to whether he will or will not play on Monday. The Steelers haven’t ruled him out, however, the team has signed a replacement, Josh Lambo, just in case. Remarkably, Boswell did have a limited practice yet still has not cleared concussion protocol. Doctors will still have to clear him first before playing on Monday. He seems to be doing fine at this stage, so it’s probably a 50-50 chance of him returning Monday night.
B.J.Finney C: questionable (back)
Probably the most ambiguous injury of all the Steelers is B.J. Finney’s injured his back. There is not much information as to the cause of the ailment; however, it may not be serious, and the designation may only be a precaution. He did have a limited practice, so he may not miss any game time.
Cam Heyward DT: questionable (ankle)
Heyward finds himself on the injury report again though it is not as serious as the one he sustained earlier this season, and there is no info as to the cause. So like Finney, it may only be a precaution in case it gets worse. Since he engaged in a limited practice and there is nothing to indicate it would cause him to miss the Bears game, expect him to play.
Halfway through the season, the Steelers have at least managed to avoid the severe injuries that had a traumatic impact on their 2020 season and remain in relatively good shape. Considering the Bears are not having a great season, the Steelers could possibly win their fourth straight game this week. Stay updated on all the latest injury news for the Monday night showdown.
