Steelers RB Najee Harris

Don’t let the lackluster production in the box score fool you; Najee Harris actually had a very good game. While he carried the ball for just 2.8 yards per attempt on 22 rushes, this number can be very misleading.

While yards per attempt is a metric used to judge efficiency at the running back position, it’s important to take each game in context. In Week 9, Harris was placed in obvious run situations on 3rd and 1 and 4th and one with the Bears clearly knowing he was going to tote the rock. While Najee didn’t get many yards on these plays, it was significant that he was able to convert to move the chains on numerous occasions.

It was also worth noting that the Steelers offensive line played very poorly as a unit in this contest. There wasn’t a lot of room to work with on the ground and Najee Harris was forced to create his own running lanes and carry defenders. He also chipped in an impressive touchdown run early in the contest.

There are other performances that were respectable in this contest for the Steelers, but these five stood above the rest. This group is quickly proving to be the best and most reliable players on the team, and if they keep this up, Pittsburgh could make a serious push this year.
